While approaching my Bachelor of Science in Accounting graduation in 2012, I knew that I wanted to pursue my higher education at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). I feel so blessed that UTD incorporated a competitive edge by offering information systems certifications that could be catered to any potential business setting.
With the help and guidance of both JSOM faculty (Dr. Thompson, Dr. Goodrich and Dr. Bardhan to name a few) and my advisors, I was able use the certification classes as electives for my dual MS/MBA in Accounting. While still new in the master’s program, I ended up moving to Houston. Given my circumstances, the JSOM graduate advisors couldn’t have made my transition into the online MS/MBA program any smoother and that included completion of my enterprise structure certification.
Although some of the classes in the certification required a face-to-face course, most were accommodated in an online classroom setting, great for a busy graduate with a professional career or a proud stay at home mother of 2 toddler boys like myself. Upon my final year before graduation, I drove weekly to UTD from Houston in order to complete my certifications in both Healthcare IT and the SAP TERP10. An added bonus was the MIS 6319 (taken with Dr. Thompson) offering, which was a course that satisfied both the enterprise systems and SAP TERP10 requirement. Although it was a challenge, I knew that the effort would pay off in the long run and it would give me the extra edge needed in our progressively, transforming information age.
